Bob Pankey: Head Coach
Coach Pankey took the reigns as Head Coach of the Benton Rangers in the 2016 season after six seasons as an assistant coach under previous head coach Jeremy Clodfelder. Coach Pankey spent four seasons heading up the Ranger's JV program before moving into the Varsity Defensive Coordinator spot for two seasons and eventually into the Head Coach position. Along the way, he has also coached Defensive Line and Linebackers as position groups. Coach Pankey played high school ball at Benton High School, graduating in 1992. In addition to coaching, he is also an associate pastor at Whittington Church (a position he has held for over 15 years) and is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes sponsor at Benton High School. He's married to Candy and they have two sons and a daughter. His passion for coaching is deeply connected to his desire to see high school athletes impacted in a positive way. "I feel high school athletics provides a very unique environment that allows us as coaches to impact these men in ways that can benefit them for the rest of thier lives. Life is not all about football...but football is all about life!"
Josh Kinsman: Offensive Line
Coach Kinsman began his coaching career in 2016 with Benton and is the offensive line coach. He graduated from Belleville West High School in 1999 and went on to play college ball at Greenville College. He is a Gas Troubleman with Ameren and is married to Valerie. They have four sons. Coach Kinsman says he got into coaching in order to impact young men so that they are better members of our community when they leave our football program.
Sean Docherty: Defensive Line
Coach Docherty joined the Ranger coaching staff in 2016 as the defenive line coach, as well as helping to coordinate the defense. Before coming to Benton, "Doch" coached for 12 years at Mt Vernon Township High School (both football and wrestling) and is currently also an assistant wrestling coach at Benton. He played for Mt Vernon, graduating in 1988, before going on to a career in teaching at Mt Vernon HS. He is married to Kiley and they have 5 children. Coach Doch says, "I love seeing players that I coach succeed...not only on the field or in the classroom, but in life as well."
Landon Stewart: Linebackers
Coach Stewart coaches linebackers for the Rangers and helps to coordinate the defensive side of the ball. He began coaching in 2014, after a stand out career as a linebacker for the Rangers...playing his senior season in 2010, in which he garnered All-South recognition. Coach Stewart is a special education teacher in Jefferson County and has a passion for the game of football.
Tim Corn: Wide Receivers/Defensive Backs
Coach Corn began his football coaching career with the Rangers in 2016 and coaches wide receivers and defensive backs. He played high school football for Benton, graduating in 2009. He went on to play college football at McKendree before coming back to Benton. He works as a personal trainer and is also on the Benton High School boys basketball coaching staff. He says this about coaching football..."It's a great way to stay involved in a sport I love and gives me an opportunity to impact young kids in a positive manner."
Derek Stowers: Quarterbacks
Coach Stowers began coaching at Benton in 2009 and is currently the quarterbacks coach, after stints as freshman coach, sophomore coach and receivers coach. He played for Benton in high school, graduating in 1996. He is a Resident Engineer with the Illinois Dept of Transportation and is married to Sarah. They have two children with another one on the way. Coach Stowers loves the relationship aspect of coaching and helping kids to succeed.
Casey McCommons: Freshman Head Coach
Coach McCommons came on board the Benton coaching staff in 2016 as a freshman assistant coach. He played high school ball at Richland High School in Virginia and also at Benton High School where he graduted from in 1998. Coach Mac earned All State honors his senior year. He is employed as a fire fighter with the Mt Vernon Fire Department and is married to Erin. They have two children. Coach Mac says, "I love the game of football and I love having the chance to possibly make a possitive impact in players' lives."
Aaron Webb: Freshman Coach
Coach Webb is the newest member of the Benton Ranger Football coaching staff. Coach Webb was hired in 2017 as a PE Teacher at Benton High School, after having taught at Mt Vernon Township High school. Coach Webb will help coach the freshman football program at Benton. Coach Webb graduated from Benton High School in 2001. He is married to Brittania and they have three daughters.
Ron Winemiller: Specieal Teams
Coach Winemiller joined the Benton football staff in 2016 as the special teams coordinator. He is also the Benton High School boys varsity basketball coach, a position he has held since 2009. Coach Wine graduated from McCleansboro High School in 1994, before going on to a career in education and coaching. In addition to coaching, he is also a drivers ed and PE teacher at Benton High School. Coach Wine is married to Whitney and they have two daughters.
